Frank Steinicke is Professor for Human-Computer Interaction at the Department of Informatics, Universität Hamburg. Before his current position, he was Professor for Computer Science in Media at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Würzburg, and led the Immersive Media Group from 2011 to 2014. He studied mathematics with a minor in computer science at the University of Münster, where he also received his doctorate and habilitation in computer science. His research focuses on connecting natural and artificial intelligence as well as realities to improve interactions and experiences in computer-mediated environments.
For his work, he received the 2023 IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Technical Achievement Award and was inducted into the renowned IEEE VR Academy. In 2024, he was appointed to the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg, and in 2025 he was inducted into the AWE XR Hall of Fame.

Frank Steinicke ist Professor für Human-Computer Interaction am Fachbereich Informatik der Universität Hamburg. Vor seiner jetzigen Position war er Professor für Informatik in Medien am Institut für Informatik der Universität Würzburg und von 2011 bis 2014 Leiter der Immersive Media Group. Er hat Mathematik mit Nebenfach Informatik an der Universität Münster studiert und dort seine Promotion und die Venia Legendi in Informatik erhalten. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen darauf, natürliche und künstliche Intelligenz sowie Realitäten miteinander zu verbinden, um Interaktionen und Erfahrungen in computergestützten Umgebungen zu verbessern.
Für seine Arbeiten erhielt er 2023 den IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Technical Achievement Award und wurde in die renommierte IEEE VR Academy aufgenommen. 2024 wurde er in die Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Künste in Hamburg berufen; zudem wurde er 2025 in die AWE XR Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
